Importance of setting up different activities in classrooms (Enabling Environment)

Famous child theorist and pioneers such as Piaget, Montessori, and Reggio Emilia emphasized that children’s physical environment is very important for their learning and development.

In early years, children need exciting, challenging and stimulating environment to learn. This can include having different resources such as book corner; sand and water trays, painting Easels, and role-play area in the classrooms. These resources create opportunities for children to interact, get active and learning social skills. However, early years practitioners need to be aware that these environments need to be different for different age groups and different abilities. EYFS also believes strongly in providing an enabling environment to children and identify it as one of its main themes.
