Role-play provides ample opportunities for children to learn through play. You can set up a supermarket in your role-play corner. Your supermarket can have pretend fruit, bread, cloths, pretend cards (sorry, thank you and birthday cards), till, money and some pen and paper to make lists. This can provide children opportunities to talk about different types of fruits and vegetable. Adults can initiate discussions about different types of feelings when playing with cards. Children can do maths whilst they are on the till. They learn to share and take turns. You can also include some reading and writing by naming the shelves and asking children to make shopping list.
Role – Play can support all areas of learning and development of EYFS and strongly supports the principle of ‘Enabling Environment’.
